Well I know I am a little slow and behind the curve with this review but my time has been limited on the amount of movies I can go out and see. Anyways onto the review…
I truly enjoyed this movie, while I am sure many people went in expecting to be blown away I went in expecting to be entertained. The premise of the movie is rather simple. A man name Eli (Denzel Washington) has the last bible on earth, and he received a “message” from God telling him he needs to head west until he finds the person that deserves the book and will take the best care of it. He is to protect the book above all else. Another man is in search of said book (Gary Oldman) and will do what ever it takes to obtain the book. His motive is to use the book to control people with the power of faith that the book can give.

This movie really goes out of it’s way to show us how powerful the bible can truly be. While not everyone may agree with that, the idea behind the movie was that in desperate times people will look to what ever they can for help and support. The movie doesn’t go into great detail as to what happened to cause the apocalypse just that there was another world war and this was the result of it. In a time when the best stuff in the bar is the clean water it really makes you think. A comment in the movie that is made that really stands out to me is: “Stuff we just threw away we now kill each other over.” The ending to the movie will really make you scratch your head and say OOHHH…

While I know this movie won’t win any kind of awards the acting was top notch, Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman always come to the table and deliver powerful performances with every part they play. Even the young Mila Kunis is showing she has some acting chops and is making out to be quite the actress. Hard to believe from her days on That 70’s Show as well as her reoccurring role on Family Guy that she can produce good performances. She has the talent and it appears she has the drive to do great things.

I know the movie is on it’s way out of the theaters but if you are able to make it to the theater with in the next few weeks to a month I highly recommend this movie to go see. It is a movie that you leave the children at home for though as there is some pretty graphic violence scenes in it. So if you are looking to be entertained and look into the what the a apocalypse world could bring us this is the movie for you.
